E-commerce happens to be the wave of the future,
at least that's how a lot of people believe shopping will continue to expand.
Selling cosmetics online has never been easy, but Lime Crime has exploded on to
the scene, thanks to the vision of its creative founder Doe Deere.
The Russian born entrepreneur is quite savvy when
it comes to computers, technology, social media and successfully building a
brand online. Doe Deere sat down with IdeaMensch to talk beauty shop and why she introduced Lime Crime makeup to the
world in 2008.
While growing up in Russia, Doe Deere was an inquisitive child and one
who was always playing with bright colors, expressing herself with makeup and
unique fashion. She even sold temporary tattoos to her young classmates as a
tween.
At age 17, Doe Deere moved to New York City and
found that the world really was her oyster. She dabbled in fun and artistic
pursuits, including sewing her own fashion for an Ebay store, as well as
joining a band. It was there that she met her musician husband Mark, who serves
as Lime Crime's president.
Doe Deere launched Lime Crime, because even a
metropolis as huge as NYC was lacking in fun, vibrant makeup. She saw an open
category in cosmetics and courageously debuted her independent makeup company.
The brand name has stuck, and as Doe Deere laughs, it is a very
"Google-able" name.
All one has to do is open a palette of Lime Crime
makeup and gaze at the crazy radical colors. You won't find any other cosmetics
quite like Lime Crime's in the universe. Imagine liquid matte lipsticks that
scream "look at me" in crazy a** shades like Gold Metallic, Cement,
Squash, Alien Green, Shroom and others.
Selling lipstick online sounds almost futile,
because it's hard to nail color exactly, but Doe Deere found a way. While other
makeup companies offered women merely a lipstick shade swiped on a blank piece
of paper, Doe Deere upped the beauty game.
Lime Crime features the "'on-lip' lipstick
swatch: when you show color not just crushed or swiped on a blank piece of
paper, but on the actual lips," she explains. That makes a major
difference in how you see the makeup, so vivid and real. Doe Deere says her
brand is the pioneer behind that on-lip swatch that other companies have now
copied.
Doe Deere also enjoys engaging her global fan base. Lime Crime's Instagram page now boasts more than 2.8 million
followers. Her fans are makeup-obsessed and appreciate makeup that's bold,
modern and edgy. The brand doesn't follow rules and creates lipsticks, eye
shadows and liners that bring fantasy and sex to the picture. There is glitter,
crystals, iridescence and all kinds of naughty pretty in Lime Crime palettes.
Doe Deere developed Lime Crime to offer women and
men an alternative makeup brand that empowers them. Lime Crime are not classic
cosmetics but bright colors that allow the wearer to re-define beauty
boundaries.
