Get ready to party. Birthday party that is!

This past weekend we had a combined birthday party for my kids with some family and close friends. The kids are exactly a week apart date wise, but there's six years age difference between them. Thankfully they get along pretty good and are okay with having a combined cake and party saving us having to try to schedule two separate parties back to back. My mom is always generous enough to make their cake for them and always tries to come up with something that's fitting for both of the kids. This year she did flowers for my daughter and music notes for my son. And I finished it off with some edible candles from Let Them Eat Candles.

These premium milk and dark chocolate candles are festively decorated with your choice of 6 colorful designs, consisting of dots, stripes, swirls and more. Each clever candle has a short, paraffin-coated cotton wick that burns long enough to sing “Happy Birthday.” And when everyone is done singing they can enjoy a chocolaty candle while they are waiting for the cake to be cut!

I didn't tell anyone except my daughter ahead of time that these were edible so it was really funny to hear everyone's reaction as she plucked one out and took a bite after we were done singing to her. It didn't take long for them to catch on and realize why they were so big and brown vs. colored like traditional wax candles. I had one myself and I have to say they were just as good as the cake itself. And the best part (besides getting to eat the chocolate) was that I didn't have to clean any wax off the top of the cake, or decide what to do with partially burnt icing coated candles. These were a win-win all the way around! The folks over at Let Them Eat Candles sure knew what they were doing when they created these.

Of course no party is complete without some fun party favors and games right?

We have a few younger kids in the family so I always make sure we have something for them to do while my kids are opening their presents. I just don't feel right making them sit and watch with nothing of their own. Playfoam Pals are perfect for this because they come in multi-packs and it's something they can take with them to enjoy later at home. Each container of Playfoam has a cute little "pal" hidden inside ready to come out and play! Recommended for kids 5+.

I also like to have a few games on hand for everyone to play while we are enjoying our meal. It helps keep everyone happy and entertained when they are finished and waiting for cake. This time I took a few new games that I thought would be fun for everyone.

Sculptapalooza from Educational Insights - a party game for teens and adults, in which teams compete against the clock to do zany challenges while crafting with Playfoam.

TrickTacToe from Cortex Toys - A party game that plays on traditional classics with a new twist. TrickTacToe is a "bottle flipping" game with unique challenges.

And last but not least no party is complete without some party gifts. I got a few new books for my daughter to enjoy after we got home. She loves to craft with her hot glue gun and make all sorts of slime creations so I knew these two titles would be perfect for her to try out.
