I hopped on the Walgreens website the other day to check on the status of a prescription refill and saw an advertisement about their "Get a Shot. Give a Shot." campaign. Of course that got me thinking about the time of year that it is and that it also means it's time for everyone to start getting their immunizations for things like seasonal flu. With that in mind I decided I would take the opportunity to make my pledge to get my shot at Walgreens so I could also "Give a Shot" to a child in need. For each immunization or flu shot you get at Walgreens, they will also provide a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life program. What better way to reward yourself for getting something you already need.

Then when I went to pick up my prescription I again saw another advertisement for the program. This time I was able to just look and smile because I knew I had already made my pledge to help children in need.

If you're already a Walgreens shopper and are already headed there to pick up you're pantry or medicine cabinet supplies why not get your adult immunizations taken care of at the same time? And while doing so have the added incentive of knowing you're helping a child have a "Shot@Life" by doing this simple little task.

What is “Get a Shot. Give a Shot.®”?
Get a Shot. Give a Shot is a Walgreens led campaign in partnership with the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign. From September 2nd through October 13th, for every flu shot or other immunization you receive at Walgreens, you will help provide a life-saving vaccine to a child in a developing country through the United Nation Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign.

How Walgreens partnership with Shot@Life will help?
Immunization is one of the world's biggest public health success stories. Yet, 1 in 5 children around the globe still lack access to the lifesaving immunizations. Coordinated worldwide vaccination efforts have made significant progress, particularly in reducing cases of measles and polio.

Does Walgreens donate flu vaccines in the United States?
Walgreens donated $10 million worth of free flu shot vouchers to Americans without health insurance coverage for a flu shot and those unable to afford one without a voucher through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help drive immunization rates among under-served populations throughout the country.

So I now leave you with this challenge. Take a few minutes of your time and visit the "Get a Shot. Give a Shot." campaign page on Walgreens website and make your pledge today! Then follow through with that pledge by visiting your local Walgreens store to get your immunizations.
