I want to start off by saying I am not a fan of flake coconut, however I do like coconut flavored things. Strange I know, but it is true. I think it might be the whole texture thing. I can't get past the way the flakes are so dry and chewy. After finding Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil I was excited to test it out for myself to see how it tasted. I was surprised when I first got the jar, it looked just like it does in the picture above, solid white (I thought it was just how it looked as a web photo.). I think I was expecting it to look like most other vegetable oils do in a liquid form. Then I read on the jar: This coconut oil is solid below 76 degrees F. and liquid above that. How interesting! So I decided it was time to check out some ways to use this oil. I looked on the Tropical Traditions Free Coconut Recipes website and found one for Egg Drop Soup. My Favorite! I was really excited when I found it, I love Egg Drop Soup. And this recipe is wonderful! The taste was awesome with the coconut oil in it and the kids loved it too. I think I've found a few hit for my recipe book. I am really looking forward to trying out some more recipes with the Coconut Oil after all of the wonderful things I have read about it and it's health benefits.
There is just so much awesome information I could share with you in this blog post, but I think it would get pretty long. So I will just keep it to a few short tidbits with links for you to read all about it yourself.
How is This Oil Used?
Virgin Coconut Oil is a food, and is one of the best cooking oils you can use. It has been a staple cooking oil for thousands of years in tropical climates. As a cooking oil, its chemical structure is kept in tact and therefore is resistant to mutations of fatty acid chains even when used in higher cooking temperatures, unlike most vegetable oils. Research shows that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss.
