We recently received a pair of Heelys in return for our honest opinions. Well, I should say my son got a pair. I was going to get them for myself, but he begged and begged me to let him pick a pair. Needless to say I gave in and now he has a new pair of Heelys! I am glad I made that decision though because he has had so much fun with them since we've gotten them. Our most recent experience was a shopping trip to a warehouse store. I told him if he came shopping with me he could wear his new shoes as long as he didn't go too fast, or get in any trouble with them.
As you can see he's having a good time...of course after several trips up and down the isles he said "Mom, my legs hurt right here" (pointing to where it hurt). I found it interesting that until that occurred he had no idea he was actually exercising. So I stopped to explain to him that he was using muscles that he didn't normally use with everyday activity and it would take some time to get used to it. Of course that didn't stop him from tooling around even more.
So we did our shopping and then went on our way. When he got in the car he removed the wheels so he wouldn't get rocks caught in them when we got home on our gravel driveway. He mentioned to me how easy it was to remove them this time after having read the enclosed directions from the box. I'll note he had a pair a few years back and it was a little harder to do not having read the directions because someone had thrown them away! I like that the shoes can not only be worn for fun while skating, but also that you can remove the wheels and use them for everyday shoes. I also like that it's exercise they can enjoy. After watching the techniques video he has even more ideas of ways to enjoy them. The only thing I would suggest is getting them a little bigger than normal size, he had to wear thin socks to get his to fit comfortably.
